About Rural Innovation in Action
Rural Innovation in Action is the programme of works facilitated by UK Government Funding granted to Rutland County Council and Melton Borough Council.
The programme focuses on ambitious projects in two unique towns – Oakham and Melton Mowbray – both of which are economically important market towns in both the immediate region and the wider East Midlands.
Following a nationwide bid process, Rural Innovation in Action was awarded £22.95 million from the second round of Levelling Up funding in 2023, ensuring that the programme can deliver its ambitious aims by April 2025.
The Rural Innovation in Action programme consists of four key projects across Rutland and Melton Mowbray:
These four projects will support the economic development of Melton Mowbray and Rutland by utilising the key features of the regions to enhance their offerings.
By developing a food innovation showcase in Melton Mowbray, a health and digital showcase in Oakham and a demand responsive transport service that links the two, the projects combine to illustrate not just the region’s existing credentials, but also its ambitions for the future.
