Local Link
Demand responsive transport for Rutland and Melton Mowbray, supported by
UK government funding through Rural Innovation in Action.
Situated in the centre of Oakham, the Local Link will act as an anchor for the new Demand Responsive Transport (DRT) service.
The hub will repurpose the former Jules House site adjacent to Rutland Memorial Hospital, reconfiguring the current site to accommodate the extended transport services and seamlessly link the hub with the hospital and town centre.
The building itself is undergoing extensive interior renovation and refurbishment and will feature an expanded rear extension to support its increased capacity. The redevelopment will also provide much-needed community space, with first-floor office space available for rent to support the scheme’s economic viability.
The plans include establishing a new network of bus routes from the site, featuring both fixed-line and demand-responsive transport operated by three new electric minibuses.
The Local Link will be based at the former Jules House site on Cold Overton Road, Oakham
The sustainable travel hub will focus on two routes, developed through extensive analysis of the region’s transport network.
Based on Rutland County Council’s Bus Service Improvement Plan and expanded to cover the Melton Mowbray area, the service will help people to access work, learning and services more easily across the two market towns of Oakham and Melton.
